Jelani Johnson as the new Director of Shock Basketball!

Everyone knows coach Jelani Johnson!  He has a carefree attitude with a killer drive that gets his teams focused and playing their best.

Jelani is one of the top scorers and all around players in Waubonsie Valley HS history.  He played college basketball for Western Illinois (Div I) and Belarmine College (Div II) where he was a star at both places!  At Western Illinois Jelani started a majority of games and had a top 25 in the nation 3-point percentage across all of Division I at 46% his sophomore year. At Bellarmine University he was a part of a Final 4 and Sweet Sixteen Run for Division II. After Bellarmine he played in multiple countries including Australia, Mexico, and France. Jelani shines his energy from playing through his coaching to make players better every time they come in the gym. He provides detail on and off the court in order to get the most out of his players. He coaches a wide range of kids from Kindergarteners to collegiate players.

Coach Jelani Johnson has been an Illinois Attack coach for several years and has helped out with our girls program as an assistant coach for several seasons too.  Starting with the Fall/Winter 2018-2019 season, he will transition into the role as Director/Administrator of the Illinois Shock program with Supreme Courts.  He will continue to coach with the Attack and also coach with the Shock.

I expect his energy and enthusiasm to carry over to this group.  He will work to build new relationships and maintain current ones with players and parents.
